Encourage a love of books

boy-reading

Babies are never too young to start enjoying books, in fact the younger they are when they start, the more chance they will love books as an older child and adult.

We recommend reading stories to your children from the age of 3 or 4 months. It might seem pointless – “they can’t read, or talk, right?” – but you will find that they eventually start to love books and point to the pictures.

All children love books, and love being read to by their parents. It is a great way to bond with your child by sharing quality time reading together. It is also a fantastic way for your child to learn the names of objects and animals.

Books for babies should have thick, chunky pages and rounded corners so that they can learn to turn the pages themselves and so that they do not rip easily. They should have colorful, simple pictures or photos, or unusual textures and windows that the baby can open to find a surprise underneath.

Incidentally, babies love faces, so photo albums are another way to stimulate their interest.

If you are on a budget, you don’t even need to buy books, as well-stocked libraries will have a fantastic selection of books for children of all ages.

I started “reading” with my son when he was just 2 months old and able to focus his eyes on the bright colors and pictures.

A children’s book suited to their age is an endless source of surprises and teaches the child cause and effect: “what will happen when we turn the page?”

Encourage your children to love books, it's a great investment for their future.

I started reading with my son too when he was just a tiny baby, it's a great gift for a child as it opens their minds to so many new experiences and new worlds, he is definitely more intelligent thanks to his love of books and can now read in English and Spanish at age 5! Do it, read with your kids, get them a library card before they can even walk!
