Music literacy, improvisation, imitation and a good relaxed posture from the beginning. The Andersonville Suzuki Academy creates an environment where all students from an early age can enjoy making music for a lifetime by excelling in violin and/or viola. Students are taught to play by ear, read music and improvise in many styles from the beginning. Parents of young children are taught how to create a nurturing atmosphere that will create desire in the child to play the violin daily. This is accomplished through complementary pedagogical approaches, private classes, group classes, and numerous performance opportunities. Andersonville Suzuki uses solfege (Do Re Mi) and rhythm syllables from Edwin Gordon`s Music Learning Theory from the beginning to help students imitate more accurately, hear music inside their head head accurately, and to eventually sight read accurately. This is the most musical approach to learning to read music and to music-making. All students have a weekly private and weekly group class. The private class makes sure that the student masters each step; the group class covers theory, repertory and the fun of music-making with friends.
