The original flower shop - a Scranton floral institution - was started by Bud and Nancy McCarthy is 1952 as a typical 'mom and pop' store. It was while Mom and Pop were busy running McCarthy Flowers of Scranton, young son Brian McCarthy was in the background quietly learning everything he could about running a florist. Possibly, Bud and Nancy had little clue that their son would not only take over ownership of the store in 1987, but that Brian would become one of the most successful floral retailers in Scranton, Clarks Summit, Dunmore and then nationally. Today, the McCarthy family of florists extends across five states and is growing. One small florist shop in Scranton grew to become The McCarthy Group, a company owning locations and properties in Florida, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina as well as a national web-presence McFlowers.com.
