Walter Bauman Jewelers traces its beginning to 1868 when Walter Bauman's grandfather started a wholesale watch and jewelry business in Pittsburgh, PA.. Shortly thereafter, the business moved to New York City following a growing demand for fine jewelry and timepieces. In 1935, Walter Bauman was happy to accept his grandfather's invitation to join him in the expanding wholesale business. After years of requests from the public, Walter Bauman decided to open a retail store. In 1960 he found the perfect location at 643 Eagle Rock Avenue in West Orange, New Jersey, where the flagship store can be found today. His idea was to offer the public the same low prices other retailers were paying for merchandise. Combined with unmatched selection and service, the West Orange store soon became well-known for the best deals on fine jewelry and giftware. In the 1970's, Walter Bauman Jewelers began its involvement with Estate and Antique jewelry. By paying the highest prices for any gold or diamond jewelry, pearls, and watches, they have built a spectacular collection including many one-of-a-kind pieces. In addition, Walter Bauman Jewelers has worked hard for the past 35 years to make itself one of America's great dealers in purchasing and selling Estate and Antique jewelry. Known as an authority on jewelry and giftware in the region, the Bauman family has been found quoted in such newspapers as the New York Times and the Newark Star Ledger, as well as numerous trade publications. Recently, Walter Bauman Jewelers was voted by as the best jewelry store in New Jersey in 2010 and 2011 by NJ Monthly reader. In addition, by offering the internet community the same value and sevice they have found so popular with their walk-in customers, the Baumans are now working to become Thejewelry authority on the World Wide Web.
