Charles E. Hughes, III, M.D., F.A.C.S., is certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has practiced in Indianapolis for more than 25 years and is highly regarded by his colleagues, referring physicians, and patients. Dr. Hughes studied at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY, and earned his B.S. degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. He earned his M.D. from Northwestern University Medical School and served his internship at Passavant Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. He served his residency in general surgery and plastic surgery at Northwestern and a fellowship in surgical oncology with the American Cancer Society. He is an attending surgeon at IU, St. Francis, Methodist, and Community South hospitals. Dr. Hughes is a Surgical Oncology Fellow and a member of the Marion County, Indiana, and American Medical Societies, the American Society of Cleft Lip and Palate, the Council of Plastic Surgery Societies Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is past president of the Lipoplasty Society of North America. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is widely published and serves as an editor of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal. He is highly sought after as a speaker and teacher, and he taught the Plastic Surgery Post Graduate Course at Northwestern for six years. He is also a National Visiting Professor of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Among many firsts, Dr. Hughes studied suction lipectomy and body sculpting with the French inventor of the technique, Dr. Gerard Illouz, and he was the first to offer ultrasonic liposuction to patients in Indiana. Recently, he was named the first in Indiana and one of seven surgeons nationwide to offer ThermaCool - an exciting new treatment that has the potential to revolutionize aesthetic skin rejuvenation.
