Description
Newmans' Design Mine Jewelry, owners & designers Barbara & Ken have been full time jewelry professionals since 1979. They had a retail store in Tucson until 2004 and now see clients by appointment. Ken's lifelong interest in gems and metal work became a passion when he was exposed to Navajo sand casting while studying anthropology. A graduate gemologist, Ken is currently experimenting with mokume gane, lost wax casting, sand casting, forged and constructed work. Newmans' Design Mine is your source for custom hand made jewelry. We'll happily design around your gems, or provide them for you. Custom designing and manufacturing jewelry to your needs, including Mokume Gane; a Japanese term meaning wood eye metal. It refers to the patterns developed in the lamination process. We also specialize in custom wedding bands. Visit our website to see the current one of a kind jewelry available, or contact us for your custom piece. Congratulations! The selection of wedding bands is an exciting and personal decision. Your bands reflect your self image as well as signify your relationship. Please check the "Pieces Now Available" page for bands now in stock ready for immediate shipment. Our goal is to help you get what you imagine! We are happy to intrepret your design concepts as well as create designs for you. Gems such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires and catseyes hold up well in wedding rings. Bouncing ideas back and forth can add great energy and creativity to the process! Let's build rings that are as exciting as your relationship! These rings are mokume gane: laminated metals in colored golds. Mokume gane is a japanese term meaning "wood eye metal". It refers to the patterns developed in the lamination process. The metals, colored golds and sterling in this case, are fused together in a kiln then forged. Grooves made into the metal to reveal the different colored layers. The metal is then forged flat again and the process repeated to develop the patterns.
