My name is Roy Thomas and I started Black Dog Photography in Hoboken, NJ about 10 years ago as a career change. Prior, I was an executive at a consulting firm in Manhattan and by most measuring sticks, successful. However, photography had grown into a passion and I decided to leave corporate life to pursue a career in the field I loved. Soon after I started the company a college intern named Emily Schlipf agreed to help me organize my studio a few hours a week. Little did I know how talented and driven she is. I shared every thing I knew with Emily. Fast forward 8 years and "WE" are Black Dog. Emily recently achieved high honors in the photography world by passing her CPP exam. (CPP=Certified Professional Photographer, Less than 3% of photographers have this distinction.) We also teach photographic lighting workshops to other photographers at the New Jersey Center For Visual Arts, an art school in Summit, NJ. My goal is simple: I want your photographs to be perfect. Therefore, regardless of whether you decide to have me create your photographs or not, I still want you to know about the things most photographers Don`t want you to know about.
