Different types of dried grasses

Dried grasses provide an attractive, soft accent.

For tall centerpieces, consider fountain grass, star grass and dune grass. For small displays, rice, avena and wheat are very good choices.

For beach themes, consider fountain grass or dune grass.

For displays in bright sunlight, dyed grasses such as star grass and fountain grass are good choices.

The compact form of avena makes it ideal for decorating tabletops or small spaces.

catspaw

Cat’s paw grass

The seed heads of this grass branch out in a manner that makes them look like paws or birds feet, giving it its name. It can be used alone, or mixed with other similarly sized grasses such as avena, rice or phalaris.

This is an ideal choice for compact centerpieces, harvest centerpieces and in a kitchen or dining room.

dune-grass

rice

Rice

This ornamental rice looks gorgeous displayed in a relatively short and wide vase that allows the stems to spread out.

sea-oats

Sea oats

Sea oats have very attractive feathery seed heads, and look great displayed alone, or as part of a more complex centerpiece.

They are an ideal choice for compact centerpieces and harvest displays.

star-grass

Part of the Restionaceae family, star grass is native to southern Africa. Their deep-green stems topped with brown seed heads have a strong and an intriguing form.
