Choosing your marriage ceremony venue

Where shall we get married?

The venue will of course depend on whether you choose a religious wedding, where the most likely scenario is that you marry where you worship.

The reception can often also be held at the ceremony venue. For example, Baptist wedding receptions are usually held in the meeting hall of the church itself.

In most US states, a wedding ceremony can be conducted in the venue of the couple's choosing, which could be at the local courthouse, the bride's home, on a beach, in a park or in a historic house, to name but a few.

If you are looking for something quirky, consider getting married in a more bizarre or unusual location, including Wal-Mart, McDonalds or whilst scuba diving…

Many couples have the ceremony and the reception in the same location, which obviously saves on transportation and helps with organization. Having your entire wedding at a hotel, restaurant or golf club with a catering service takes away much of the strain of organizing transportation, caterers, hire of tables, glassware, etc.

In answer to a commonly asked question, in the US it is possible to get married onboard a cruise ship, but only when it is in a US port, and the ship's captain is not licensed to conduct the wedding.
