Taking dance classes for your first dance

Your first dance as a married couple is one of the most symbolic moments of your wedding day, and is a moment that is greatly anticipated by your guests.

All eyes will be on you, so if you are not already competent dancers, why not take a few dance classes to help you learn a simple dance routine that will wow your friends and family!

The dance instructor can help you choose a track that will suit your musical tastes and dancing abilities. The idea is to learn to dance with natural, easy steps and a casual hold, creating a lasting image of romance and intimacy that will be an enjoyable experience for those watching.

A waltz is the most traditional dance for a wedding first dance, but this is not set in stone, so feel free to choose any song or style you wish.

You may also want to take instruction for the father-daughter dance and mother-son dance.

How many classes will we need?

The most popular way to prepare for your first dance is with 5 lessons, starting one or two months before your wedding, giving you enough time to prepare an elegant and romantic dance. If you are on a limited budget, with 3 lessons you will be able to learn a few simple steps. If you both love performing, and have more time and money to invest, a package of 10 lessons will ensure a more polished and elaborate performance.

Experts say that the ideal time for a dance lesson is 45 minutes, and that four 45-minute lessons are more beneficial than three 1-hour lessons. Make sure you take your lessons as the wedding approaches to ensure that your newly-learnt skills are still fresh on the wedding day.

You will not need many lessons to pick up the basics of your chosen dance, and you will have a great deal of fun as a couple!
