A modern US wedding: The honeymoon

The most important trip of your life... Going on honeymoon after the wedding gives the bride and groom time to relax and spend time together before starting their new life together.

At a US wedding, the bride and groom may leave for their honeymoon immediately after the wedding reception, or wait until the excitement of the wedding has died down. This is often to an exotic and romantic location and could last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

The honeymoon tradition began with the Teutonic peoples, who only celebrated weddings during a full moon. The origin of the word honeymoon comes from the custom that the newlyweds had to drink honey liquor for 30 days after the wedding.
